Frequently Asked Questions
1) Deylandra works because it's a more entertaining way to learn a language. The more entertaining a program is, the more you're going to practice. The more you practice, the more you're going to learn the language.
Learning a language should be fun, but the reality is most software, books, and classes can get pretty boring. A person will start with a lot of enthusiasm, only to lose momentum after a few weeks. Because learning a language requires a lot of practice, the only way most people will have the endurance to become fluent is if it's fun!
2) Deylandra is cheaper. Rosetta Stone, Fluenz, Berlitz, the Pimsleur Approach, classes, private tutors, etc can cost $500 or more.
3) With a 6 month subscription to the website (this comes with the DVD/Blu-ray package) you can practice every language that we offer at no additional cost. For example, if you wanted to learn 3 languages with Rosetta Stone it would cost over $1500 but with Deylandra you can learn 3 or more languages all for $99.95.
4) Interacting with REAL PEOPLE. Deylandra is the closest thing to being in Europe without actually going there. Virtual Immersion. Why learn from pictures, books, or teachers, when you can learn from real people on the streets?
Deylandra is based on the website wordcount.org which ranks the frequency words are used in the English language. For example "the" is the number one most frequently used word in the English language, followed by "of" as number 2. "Moment" is the 417th most frequently used word in the English language.
The idea is to learn the most important words first, starting with 1 and working your way up to 1000.
If you can learn the first 1000 words of a language, that typically covers about 80% of the words used in everyday conversation. Learning 1000 words is a good basis for fluency. Learning 1000 words is fun and easy with Deylandra!
The bottom subtitles are a translation of the entire sentence as a whole while the subtitles on the right side are a translation of each individual word by itself without context.
This gives you two different vantage points as to the meaning. Remember that not everything translates word for word into another language. Some words have multiple meanings. Common expressions in your native tongue may not have an equivlant in another language.
Consider it learning in 3D. Sometimes you need better perspective.
Yes, if you click on “settings” in your online account, you may change your native language to one of the following: French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Swedish, Portuguese. The subtitles will then appear in that language and the language you're attempting to learn. We are in the process of adding Mandarin, Japanese, and Russian.
For DVDs/Blu-rays, we are in the process of building these for other native languages also. Deylandra.fr, Deylandra.de, Deylandra.es, Deylandra.pt, Deylandra.it, Deylandra.nl should be up and running by September 2013.
